Recently, GN released its new product-GNLW363D-FHD decanter centrifuge. First, let’s get to know what the meaning of the product name. GN means the company name, LW means it is horizontal spiral product. 363 means the bowl diameter is 360mm which equals to 14 inch. And 3 means the length of bowl is about 3 times longer than the diameter. This ratio has been specially engineered by the technician to guarantee its good performance during work. D means the 4TH  generation of decanter centrifuge. FHD means full hydraulic driven. All the configuration is high standard which can meet most of the customer’s requirement. The bowl material is made of duplex SS 2205/ SS 2304, the screw conveyor material is made of SS 304/ SS 316 and then the surface is protected by the tungsten carbide tiles which is more endurable and reliable, and it can save customer’s money both in operation and maintenance. And the solid discharge port is also used the tungsten carbide inserts. The bearing is still used the world famous SKF. The FHD system is VISCOTHERM full hydraulic drive. The electrical control system is smart PLC control. And the coating is used the Cosco & Kansai Zinc Rich Epoxy Coating. The equipment can be used in extreme high temperature environment with heavy mud situation. And the decanter is designed and assembled on a skid, which makes it easier to move and save time and cost for transportation.

In recent weeks, GN Solids Control is busy assembling and completing the mud recycling system for an overseas customer for the 1500 HP drilling rig. This system is with full stages of solid control equipment and large liquid storage tanks. Since its establishment in 2007, GN has already started manufacturing the solid control equipment for the oil and gas industry. After 10 years development, GN has already accumulated much experience and can be customer’s one stop shop for solid control system. Now its product range spanning from shale shakers, mud cleaners, decanter centrifuge, cutting dryer, vacuum degasser and so on.

The mud recycling system is mainly composed of the following elements: there are 14 tanks in total used for mud recycling, storage and mixing and for water and fuel storage. There are 3 units of shale shakers which will be connected to the mud distributors that will distribute the drilling mud coming through the pipeline from the wellbore. There is also a mud gas separator to eliminate the flammable gas for safety purpose. And after the shale shaker, there is one vacuum degasser which will be used to remove the cut in gas in the mud to improve the efficiency of the centrifugal pump. After that is one mud cleaner which is composed of desander, desilter and underlying shale shaker. One decanter centrifuge is also equipped in the system for barite recovery. This can save the operator a lot of money as barite is very useful and expensive. There are also various pumps installed in the system to perform their function, such as the centrifugal pump which is used to transfer the drilling mud in the system. And there are also about 30 units of agitators and mud guns which will be used to clean the corners of the tank and mixing the mud in the tank to keep the mud property at good level.

Mud cleaning system is critical in the drilling process as they protect the system components by lowering solid/sand content in the drilling fluid. Cleaner fluids means much longer and expandable life in the entire mud cleaning and pumping system. Lowering solid content also allows drilling fluid to carry the sand from the bore more efficiently, making for a better bore hold and improving the rate of penetration dramatically. And it can also solve the environmental and disposal issues and save a lot of cost.

GN’s mud cleaning system are made on skid, like modular, which makes it very easy for transportation. The mud system mainly includes five components: shale shaker, shaker screens, hydrocyclones( desander, desilters), mud tanks, and electrical motor and centrifugal pump. GN’s shale shaker is mostly in linear motion and is used for the coarse separation. It mainly separate the solids by its size by the screen. For the screens, GN now can manufacture its OEM screen with GN brand, also it can manufacture some famous replacement screens, such as DERRICK, MI-SWACO and BRANDT. After the shale shaker, the mud will be pumped by the centrifugal pump into the hydrocyclone which uses centrifugal force to separate the solid from liquid. It can separate the solid size up to 20 microns. The mud tanks usually have 3 compartments, which will hold the mud coming from different separation stage. The size and capacity will depend on the drilling rig size and fluid flow rate. Now GN can manufacture and supply all the components with high quality and low cost.
